The Spahn Ranch is an old western movie ranch. Many western-themed television shows and movies were filmed at the ranch. In 1948 the ranch was purchased by George Spahn. Later he allowed "The Manson Family" to stay rent free at his ranch in exchange for sexual favors from the women in the group. This is where the family lived while committing several murders in Los Angeles in 1969. To get there take the 118 freeway and exit Topanga Canyon Road and head south. Turn right on Santa Susana Pass Rd. Next turn right on Iverson Road and Park next to the church. The Spahn Ranch is located directly across from the church on Santa Susana Pass road.
Cross the street and look for a small trail below the road on the curve. You will probably see some old junk along the way and a piece of a old truck on the upper trail. Take the lower trail to enter the edge of the ranch. Follow the creek to a shaded area and a strange rock. Be careful of old barbed wire and cables crossing the trail. I almost got snagged by some barbed wire. At the top of the hill is a No Trespassing Sign on the edge of a ranch road. This is as far as you can legally go. If you backtrack your steps and now take the upper trail you can get a better view of the ranch and easy exit back to your car.
