My day with a Monk

2/8/2013

The answer to yesterday's riddle was $50, $5, $2, $2, $2, $2.  I hope
you enjoyed it.

Yesterday I attended the Intenders of the highest good meeting. It was
located as a secluded tree covered house in Culver City.  Finding the old
apartment complex was like walking into a fairy tale.  (http://www.intenders.com)

It was valuable and unique and different than a normal day of wasting time on
the computer.  We watched the film about the group explaining the process
and then we meditated and shared our intentions with the circle.  Paul
organizes The Intenders group in Los Angeles and he is a fascinating
character.  He is also a monk.  I asked him what he does for a living
and this was his response:

"I made enough money in real estate and property management and now I am retired and I live my life as a monk."

The meditation session left my whole body tingling and I really got the
chance to think differently and visualize my life in the way it will be.  I
intend to make big things happen this year and I know that it is possible to
shape your own reality.  It was certainly a more eventful day then wasting
time on Facebook.

Today I am going to read more and pack for my weekend trip to Las
Vegas.  It is raining now and the rain is quite soothing.  It is time
to make the most out of today.

A clever riddle from an unlikely source

I am thankful that I have a job despite that I do not feel that it will take me to where I want to go. I am currently working security at a bar.  But the good news is that I enjoy my job and I have my entire day free to work on my transformation and on the way
home from work I can listen to Coast to Coast AM and hear different topics and opinions.  The best part is that I work weird hours so I have no traffic to deal with.

Yesterday before work I stopped to get gas and as I was refueling a homeless man came over and started to wash my front window.    I was sitting in my truck watching him.  He had a rough look to him, might have been a drug user, and was missing some teeth.  Most people would probably be scared or want to avoid him.  Many would ask him to leave.  I exited my vehicle and talked with him.

 I welcomed him.

“How is your day going so far?”

He said “Great we are both here breathing right?”

“Exactly, every day is a blessing”

Then he says.  “I got a riddle for you and normally I charge for this one but you are a nice guy,  How would you give me $63 dollars only using 6 bills and no one dollar bills and no change?”

I try to figure out the riddle with no luck and eventually he tells me the answer.  I give him a handful of change.  Then I say:

“Okay I got one for you, look through your change.  Any silver coin before
1965 is 90% silver and worth $3-$6.  And you can save it or take it to any coin dealer for cash.

I learned that you cannot judge a book by its cover.  Even a homeless man can make your day better.  Yesterday I attended my work meeting.  I was on time and my supervisor was late.  I read more of The Magic of Thinking Big.  I found this quote:

“When you believe something is impossible, your mind goes to work for you to prove why.  But when you believe, really believe, something can be done,  your
mind goes to work for you and helps you find the ways to do it. “

Tonight I will attend my first intenders circle. (http://www.intenders.com/)
Every day I am closer to reaching my goals and each day I will take a small step towards them.  Tomorrow I will let you know the answer to the riddle.  He did a great job on my window by the way.

Claremont Hills Wilderness Park

I recently hiked in the Claremont Hills Wilderness Park.  The park is located at the end of Mills Ave. in Claremont CA.  There is plenty of parking available but this location can get very crowded.  I hiked on a Wednesday afternoon and saw over 200 cars and dozens of people.  The hike is a 5 mile loop that can be approached from a fork in the path. Burbank Canyon trail is to the left and Cobal Canyon is to the right.  At the time of my hike it appeared that Cobal Canyon is the more shady option and Burbank canyon is the more sunny option.  I approached the hike from Cobal Canyon.  I really enjoyed this hike and I plan to return in the near future.  Have you ever visited the Claremont Hills Wilderness Park?

New Year, New Goals

It is February and the start of a new year.  Just like last year I made a list of
goals but unlike last year I plan to actually achieve them. Making a list means nothing if you do not follow through and work at your goals each week.  I am going to share my goals and progress so that my readers can help me to be
accountable. I also joined the Early to Rise $100,000 transformation contest.  https://www.facebook.com/TheNewEarlyToRise
