Last weekend I went to the Ojai Valley Wine Festival and camped at the Lake Casitas Recreation area. We camped in creek side #9 and #10 and had an awesome time. There were 5 people in my camping group and we reserved two sites. Both campsites were a tad small and I am glad that we reserved the extra space.
One downside of camping in Lake Casitas is that they only allow you one vehicle per spot even though each site can easily hold up to three vehicles with ease. They will allow additional vehicles in your camp site but they will charge you $12-$17 per night for the privilege. It actually cost me less to park in downtown San Francisco for a weekend. This was about the only downside I see in camping in the Lake Casitas Campgrounds.
Last time I camped in Mallard which is a nice campground but most sites provide little shade. Creek side provides plenty of shade and I would recommend creek side 12 and 13 as the best sites. It is also within walking distance to the Lake Casitas camp store.
At all of my camping adventures I make sure to enjoy awesome food. We ate like kings. We had pollo asada and chile for dinner, and free range eggs each morning for breakfast. We even made Martinis and found that my friend's water bottle made a perfect shaker. It was a truly amazing experience.
Camping at Lake Casitas and attending the wine festival was a relaxing experience. No need to worry about driving. From the creek side campground it was about a half mile walk to the wine festival.
The Ojai Valley wine festival was truly amazing. Unlimited tastings for only $35 (if you bought your ticket early). I really enjoyed the wines from Le Vigne Winery, Malibu Sundowner, and The Hitching Post. I enjoyed the Syrah from the Hitching Post the most and came back many times for a repeat taste.
Another interesting winery was The Twin Pomegranates. They made several wines from fermented Pomegranates and all of their wine was refreshing.
The beer tastings were also incredible from Firestone Brewery and Guinness.
