Camping is one of the most awesome activities to do. It is relaxing and exhilarating to be with nature. Some campsites are truly beautiful but very hard to get to. Four wheel drive or high clearance vehicles are highly recommended. If you have such a vehicle, then you are in luck. The below campsites offer an amazing place to camp if you can get there.
Tent Peg Group Camp
Located in the San Bernardino National Forest at 5400 feet. This camp will accommodate 10-30 people and up to 5 vehicles. Reservations are required at www.reserveamerica.com or call (909)337-6717 for more information.
Ocotillo Wells
This park covers over 80,000 acres and is the perfect outdoor playground for off highway vehicles. Because of soft ground many vehicles can get stuck. Fees are low and camping is free in the Ocotillo Wells area. For more information visit http://ohv.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=1217
Cabin Flat
Located along the Prairie Fork Creek in the Angeles National Forest at 5400 feet near the town of Wrightwood. An Adventure Pass is required but there is no fee for camping and reservations are not accepted. For more information contact the Mojave Rivers Ranger District at 661-296-5847.
Big Rock
A Forest Service map is essential for this primitive camp. It is located on Big Rock Creek in the Angeles National Forest. There are eight sites in this campground. Guffy

Lupine
There are 11 sites in this campground. If you can get to this camp you will be rewarded with a very challenging hike starting from the camp over to Pine Mountain Ridge, down into a canyon, and then heads east to Dawson Peak. This is a very long and challenging hike that is completed by very few. It is free to camp and reservations are not accepted. An Adventure pass is required. Mahogany Flat
There are 10 sites in the campground. Located in Death Valley in a shaded area with Juniper and pinon pines. Nearby Telescope Peak is a 14 mile round trip hike offering views of both Death Valley and Panamint Valley. The elevation at the campground is 8,200 feet and the hike takes you to 11,049 feet at the top of Telescope Peak. Therefore you must be in good shape to attempt this hike with a 2,849 foot elevation gain. For more information contact The Death Valley National Park at 760-786-3200.
Thorndike
Also located in The Death Valley National Park this campsite has six campsites for tents. The campground is accessible by foot or four wheel drive high clearance vehicle only. Over 100 year old charcoal kilns built by Chinese laborers and used by Shoshone Indians are nearby. No reservations are accepted and there is no fee. Half Moon
