Normally I am a tent only camper but I had the pleasure of staying in one of the cabins on a recent visit. The cabins can sleep up to 5 people and rent for $50 per night. The cabins are brand new with a fresh new wood smell and I think I was one of the first people to sleep in the fancy cabins. Each cabin even contains an outlet and an electric heater. Cabin camping was just the change of pace that I needed. No need to bring the tent just an air mattress and a warm sleeping bag. Inside the cabins have one bunk bed and a large bed that is more of a sleeping platform then a bed. Make sure to bring a pad or an air mattress as sleeping on bare wood would not be comfortable.
But Lake Morena has more to offer than just camping, the large lake provides some of the best bass fishing in all of San Diego County and offers some short hikes around the lake.
If you venture outside the park make sure you visit the Motor Transport Museum or my personal favorite the Campo railway museum. If you don't feel like cooking try the somewhat nearby (about 17 miles away) Barrett Junction Cafe for amazing BBQ and Fish Fry.
