Solstice Canyon, Waterfall and Ruins in Malibu, CA

Solstice Canyon is a nice peaceful short hike in Malibu. The main attraction of this hike is ruins of the Roberts Ranch House.   The Roberts Ranch house was built in 1952 and it burned down in 1982.  The ruins can be accessed via the Solstice Canyon Trail (2.1 miles round trip) or The Rising Sun Trail (1.5 miles).  There are other nearby trails such as: Trw Loop Trail (1.5 miles round trip), Dry Canyon Trail (1.2 miles round trip), and the Sostomo Trail/Deer Valley Loop (3.9 miles).  A map is available with more information in the parking lot near the Solstice Canyon trailhead.  In addition to the Roberts Ranch Ruins you can also see ruins of The Keller House which was built in 1903 and was destroyed in the corral fire of 2007.  Solstice Canyon Trail is the easiest of all the hikes but as always remember to bring plenty of water especially if you attempt any other hikes. 

To get there:

From Los Angeles:

Take 10 freeway westbound
Drive all the way to end of freeway where it turns into PCH
Drive about 15.5 miles north on Pch (just past Pepperdine University)
Turn right at Corral Canyon Road
and make a left (Solstice Cyn Rd.) at first bend in road
Drive up Solstice Canyon Road to parking lot at end of road

Arriving early and/or carpooling is recommended as the parking lot often gets full.

Please note that drinking water from the creek or ponds is not advised.  Water can contain contamination or contain the giardia protozoan.  Bring your own water or use a water filter.
